I was born in Delhi and since then I have been living in the capital of India. During this period, I have seen tremendous changes in this city. Earlier days Delhi used to be the greenest city in the world and then come industries which literally spoiled its charm. The industries brought jobs for the people and lots of migrants moved to Delhi in search of jobs because they had not other options. So the traffic which increased by many folds. As per the statistics, some eighty lakhs vehicles are there in this city and some two thousand vehicles are added every day. As many as 10,000 people a year may die prematurely in Delhi as a result of this air pollution. The 2014 report of the Ambient Air Pollution (AAP) database contains results of outdoor air pollution monitoring from almost 1600 cities in 91 countries.The national capital has the highest concentration of PM2.5 — particulate matters less than 2.5 microns– form of air pollution, which is considered more serious and can cause respiratory diseases and other health problems.
It is high time we should bring this pollution level down otherwise it will destroy what all we have left with. The government have taken some steps, but it seems nothing concrete have happened as of now. People are still unaware of consequences of pollution. Reducing the pollution requires a lot of efforts by the government, industries and consumers. We need to bring in stricter control, more public awareness and reasonable pricing for eco-friendly products which can help in reducing pollution in the city. It is time to be the part of this drive and bring back the lost charm of Delhi.
